As my personal interpretation of Bass music isn't too mature, i've decided to cheat and post one pretty fresh track and one which is a bit of a classic bass tune from my itunes library..
This track is from Falty DL's most recent album 'You Stand Uncertain' which was released March(ish) this year. As a whole i think it's very very good. The NY producer has not taken his foot off the gas which is nice to see as his first album was released not too long ago. Bass heads will enjoy this one and everything he has made. A nice set of headphones is essential here!
Second Post to Scruffo here. Just because he fucking loves it. Again..hearing this on the Funktion 1 at Band On The Wall with a brew is a real treat to the ears. The track features Kirsty Almeida on Vocals, and what vocals they are..

Experimental (New+Old)
This genre is currently packed full of good stuff. I got into more experimental productions having listening to Flying Lotus a few years ago who in my opinion sits at the very top of the tree. Within his records there is an obvious influence of hip-hop throughout, however the complex electronic bleeps, beats and baselines used as well as samples from anywhere and everywhere, make Flying Lotus very interesting to listen to.
The FlyLo track i've gone for features Declaime with some nice rhymes but it's all about the production of this track and the sampling used by Big Steve (he's actually huge..).
I recommend seeing this guy whenever you possibly can. Mindmelting.

For the old experimental record i was tempted to choose a Pink Floyd track (most probably selected from Dark Side Of The Moon) as it is one of my favourite albums ever.
However, i'm gonna keep things in the family. If you don't already know, FlyLo is the nephew of the late Alice and John Coltrane and as you can imagine, he grew up surrounded by amazing music. If you listen to more FlyLo material, you will see how this kind of material by Alice Coltrane has influenced the music he has made. I read that Alice free improvised on the Harp on this track which makes it so much better. Very experimental for the time of it's release (1970).

Electronica (New+Old)
I think this is one of my favourite genres mainly due to the fact that it can be so broad. This is what i consider to be the best kind of new electronica around at the moment. With the quantity and variety of instruments used in the tracks production, Sphere gives a different feel to a standard electronica sound. Futuristic but elegant at the same time.
As Moby was a pioneer of Electronica in the 90's i thought i'd choose one of his tracks. Not the most well known but one of my favourites. A more mellow feel to that of Illum Sphere with a classic Moby piano piece.
Lo-Fi (New+Old)
Over the past few months i have fallen in love with Glitchy Lo-Fi Producer Tokimonsta. One of the Fly-Lo crew, she has released material on Brainfeeder and is quickly becoming regarded as one of the top producers in L.A, not an easy task but she makes it seem effortless.
This was one of the songs that got me into the lo-fi kind of sound. I don't know too much about the origins of lo-fi but i think that this track represents the genre quite well. Anyone who likes Bonobo will love this gem from his earlier production days. It's sounds like how you imagine yourself falling asleep.
If you want a heavier taste of what Tokimonsta is making click below. Very Big Baselines.
Jazz (New+Old)
Had to Get a bit of Scruffo in these first few posts. I'm sure i could post a song of his for every genre going but i've gone for 'Jazz Potato' for the relatively new jazz record choice. If you've got a nice set of headphones or speakers listen in for standard scruff basslines that he drops in a third of the way into the track. Best heard at Keep it Unreal at Band on the Wall played by the man himself. He's currently producing a new album so watch out for it.
As i'm on the topic of Mr. Scruff..
There's not a lot of words i can use to describe this song apart from mindblowing epic.
Soul (New+Old)
In my opinion, Andreya Triana has one of the most soulful voices the industry has heard for a long time. Championed by Bonobo, she has featured on a few of his tracks and their styles complement each other all too well. So much so that Bonobo produced Andreya's debut album 'Lost Where I Belong'. She has also done vocals for magician Flying Lotus. Can't wait to see her at Soundwave Festival in Croatia this summer..
I'm sure this woman gave Miss. Triana some inspiration at some point, as well as anyone who has heard her music. This is why Soul is called Soul.

Funk (New+Old)
Found out about these Australian Funksters having listened to DJ Yoda's edit of 'Up On The Hill' featured on Shapes 10:02 which is a brilliant compilation album ranging from reggae to experimental stuff. The Sitar used in 'Up On The Hill' gives off a lovely eastern sound which would be perfect to hear on the beach somewhere. If you like it they've got plenty of material all of which is great!
I had to incorporate some James Brown into this genre and a remix of one of his classics is my old track choice. Though this song isn't strictly 100% Funk, it definitely gets a crowd going when ever i've heard it played out. DJ Parker never gets it wrong with his remixes of iconic artists. Check out his Aretha Franklin one and more on his Soundcloud.
Hip-Hop (New+Old)
Getting things going with some hip-hop.
Bit of a lie already as the original track of this record isn't too new. However i've just got into Q-Tip (a little late) but really liking his stuff. I wasn't actually going to post the Fingerman edit but noticed it whilst looking for a link on soundcloud and i really like the funked up faster version. And i just can't resist a cheeky remix..
Hijack provides some sick scratching for the older hip-hop record. The track samples Bongo Band's "Apache". That may not ring too many bells however i'm 100% sure you'll recognise it if you have a listen.

New+Old
I don't really know where to start music wise to kick it all off. So i thought i'd just get a shit load good music posted at once to get the vibes flowing nicely. I thought an old and new record from each genre i've listened to would be a nice touch.
Church
To christen my new blog i felt it was fitting that my first post should be dedicated to South East London's newest and most exciting underground music project. Church kicked off 03.03.11 at St. Giles Church, Camberwell and after only five weeks of entertaining clubbers from all over London, the crew managed to attract a large fan base who have since followed Church to one of the best venues in the country in Corsica Studios. Having cemented a regular weekly club night in London, Church have sprouted a secondary musical branch in Manchester, in my opinion, second only to London in the country for underground music.
The Deaf Institute was where the Manchester party began and it's testament to how far Church has come in such a small amount of time that the launch was at such a prestigious venue. During one of the quietest clubbing periods of the year, Church packed the place out. Meanwhile in London, Church have hosted artists xxxy, My Panda Shall Fly & Monki all of whom are regular headline acts across the country and europe. With Fantasic Mr. Fox, Cookie Monsta yet to play Church, there is plenty of partying and happy punters in the pipeline. Church have also got producers Dark Sky present at the Parklife after-party they are throwing at Joshua Brookes.. which may possibly be the best party they've thrown so far.
Residents and Founders JRT and APES do not intend to take their foot off the pedal and with artists Slumstate and TCTS regularly taking to the decks with the boys, there is plenty of musical talent at every Church event, headliner or no headliner. Watch out for Church in London, Manchester and probably any other city in the country who wish to hear the freshest sounds in the underground bass music scence.
